MODULE 5 : Aromatherapy

 

Learning outcomes

After this module and a period of self-directed study the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the principles of safe treatment special groups, such as pregnant women and babies
  2. Explain the principles of treating inflammation, infection and pain using intensive and internal treatments
  3. Carry out a facial
  4. Explain the purposes of Continuous Personal Development and develop a strategy for assessing their own needs in this area
  5. Explain the principles underlying research
  6. Discuss the contents and findings of research papers relating to aromatherapy and massage
  7. Produce profiles of essential oils from their research findings
  8. List the steps in preparing to carry out a research project
  9. Describe the essential oil covered in terms  of their country of origin, extraction method, botanical family, Latin name, chemistry, properties, uses and hazards
  10. Describe the carrier oils covered in terms of family, Latin name, major constituents, properties, uses and hazards.

Essential oils:  Rutaceae:  grapefruit, Mandarin, neroli, Orange, Petitgrain

Jasmine, Rose, Poaceae: Citronella, Palmarosa, Vetiver  Sandalwood, myrtle, Ylang ylang

Carriers: arnica, Echinacea, devils claw, gotu kola

Time: 5 days

 

Cost: £450

 

Method of delivery: handouts, power-point presentation, discussion.

Practical session : prescriptions, facials, consultation and massage

Assessment: Formative: this module will be assessed by a combination of multiple choice/short answer questions on each of the theory outcomes.

Summative: IFPA examinations
